Be SEO Friendly on YouTube

By Elisha McMahon

One thing has been made very clear when it comes to marketing: Video is a powerful tool. If you are involved in YouTube or another similar video making community, you will know what it feels like to create and share content with viewers. But how do you take your video from mediocre to viral proportions? What makes one video receive 10 views versus 10 million views? The key is search engine optimization and using it to your advantage. Here’s how to get noticed when putting your content out there.
First impressions matter. Consider which keywords are likely to get you the most traffic. Make sure your title grabs people in 5 words. Most long titles will be cut off and getting half a message at a glance can be confusing. Be smart but don’t try and deceive people.
Having the right tags on the video can be extremely helpful in getting views. Search engine function very much the way we think. Think about how someone would search for your video on the internet and include those words in the tags.
Help the search engine focus on the subject matter, keeping it simple is best. YouTube will even suggest tags based on what’s listed in the description and title fields. Use those hints to your advantage.
Select your content category wisely. The number one viewed category daily is Entertainment. But if your video is about “how to apply eyeliner” you probably want to stick to a more relevant field such as how to & style.
Post your videos to all of your social media outlets. The three most popular are Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. If you’re not on any of those, get on them & get acquainted with your audience. Spread your content across the web.
I hope you found this helpful and feel free to share any tips or tricks you might have in the comments below! Good luck!
